CASE STUDY 3:
PROJECT: Centralized Learning Management System for 10 Public Health Training Centers
CLIENT: National Network of STD Clinical Prevention Training Centers (NNPTC)
WEB SITE POWERS ONLINE EDUCATION AND IMPROVES EFFICIENCIES FOR 9 REGIONAL TRAINING CENTERS

CHALLENGE
Both the Denver and California STD/HIV Prevention Training Center needed a online system to handle listing courses and registrations for classroom and online classes, and to automate the complicated reporting process to the Federal government. They also needed a way for non-technical staff to easily update web pages, post classes, manage student registrations and online evaluations, and augment online and classroom learning with a document library.
SOLUTION
Denver and the California STD/HIV Prevention Center partnered to develop custo a learning management system (LMS) would work for their shared requirements, but also allow each agency to have an individual website that they could customize. This framework went through several revisions over the years driven by requests from their front line works, adding new features to better serve their target audience and improve administrative capabilities. Huge Media rolled this framework out for seven other STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers, serving nine out of a total of twelve regional centers. All the agencies benefit from sharing costs in developing new features that can be rolled out to their individual sites.
The Centers for Disease Control decided it would be more cost effective for the Training Centers if a National Learning Management system (LMS) could be built so that as new training centers were funded, they would not have to build their own LMS. Also, rather than processing the reports for individual training centers, it would be more cost effective for the CDC to work from compilled reports.
Leveraging what we had already built for individual training centers, we built a centralized system that was compartmentalized allowing for each center to post their own trainings and access their own student records and reports.
